Note | Nudity In Praise of LouLou
If Loulou's editorial (and cover photo), lensed by David Bellemere are visually representative of the rest of Treats! Issue 2, then I say double bravo again!!!
These images are exquisitely beautiful and any man or woman who has a problem with them needs to go straight to confession, in hopes that the great (God)dess will forgive them.
I began the day writing about another special set of images from David Burton called 'Life in Beautiful Botswana'. The story is about a woman’s quest for self-discovery and enlightenment in this beautiful part of Africa, and I related to it fully in terms of my own life journey.
These David Bellemere images impact me even more deeply in their artistry and sensuality. They are liberating, uplifting and true to the Treats! mission, which is to elevate sensuality. I've had long, long talks with several of the folks at Treats! and I will personally vouch for their committment to women in this endeavor.
Will they screw up? Yes. Will I tell them so? Yes. But what publisher of explicit content even worries about how these images will impact women's hearts, minds and sensual spirits? The founders and staff of Treats! do worry.
There are those who find the Treats! images too beautiful and not raw and dirty enough. The reason I am behind this publication to the fullest is because they are driving the ball down the middle of the playing field, with hopes of creating a New Eroticism luxury brand with widespread appeal and artistic integrity.
Finding Our Sensual Middle
Just as the women's movement was co-opted by the loudest voices on either side of the argument (the social conservatives like Phyllis Schlafly and ardent feminists who say that sex with men is surrender to the patriarchy for women), any hint of eroticism in America also plays to the minority lifestyles, while the majority of Americans are totally out of touch with sensual beauty.
Sorry, dear Treats! but you are vanilla. Some say that's the kiss of death, but I say it's the big opportunity in New Eroticism.
As a woman devoted to killing the guilt that American women in particular still feel about our bodies and sexual desire, I like looking at Bergdorf Goodman images of sensual LouLou.
I am thrilled, defiant and up for the challenge of facing anyone -- man or woman -- who condemns this gorgeous editorial. The perversion is yours, not mine or my readers.
Spiritual, Sensual Harmony & Artistry
For me these images are as political as they are artistic. They are inspiring and should be treasured by any woman trying to find her own beauty and self-love. I've been down this road with my own camera and I assure you there is liberation, integrity, spirituality and most likely a love of humanity in the character of women like LouLou.
These women -- and the men who appreciate them -- are our hope for the future.
Thanks Treats! LouLou and the very talented David Bellemere. I am so impacted by the intimate, luxurious beauty and sensual harmony of this editorial that I will savour it for days. God Bless Treats! and God Bless America. This is my kind of ammunition against the morality police. Anne
