Shanina Shaik | Victoria’s Secret Lingerie March 2012 Lookbook

Melbourne native Shanina Shaik walked the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show for the first time last November, after trying out two previous times. A blend of her parents' Pakistani and Saudi Arabian roots, Shanina is now front and center in Victoria's Secret's March 2012 lingerie lookbook.
Interviewed in November by New York Magazine, Shanina talks about being an Australian woman, meeting Miranda Kerr backstage at the VSFS rehearsal.
Yeah, I was nervous at rehearsals, and my heart was beating – boom, boom, boom. She told me, “Don’t be nervous, it’s fun, believe me.” I think that’s why Australian girls do so well, it’s just our culture – when you go to Australia, it’s so relaxed, and you’re, like, happy and cheerful. It’s just how we are.
Shanina says that her ultimate job booking was walking the VSFS but she'd also like to shoot for Vogue Italia.
I would love to explore high-fashion modeling, too, like Italian Vogue. I get put-down a lot that I can’t do high fashion, for how I look, they say I’m too sexy. I think it’s just how I look in my eyes, that I’m very exotic, and they automatically think I’m sexy. But it’s not that, it’s just me, and I can do high fashion. So that would be an ultimate booking.
What an interesting comment, one I believe in totally, having argued for years now that fashion took down the big Smart Sensuality supermodels like Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and company because they were sexy, larger-than-life powerful and a size 4 -- not size 0.
I call this trend fashion monasticism and it's best represented by Karl Lagerfeld.
On a side note re being sexy and the right size to walk the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, my Kate Upton piece in AOC Body VS Stylist Says Kate Upton Is Too Fat; Anja Rubik Is Perfect? is the biggest article ever at AOC. It continues to draw 4-5,000 reads a day, a month after publication. Enjoy Shanina, who is a wonderfully exotic, sensual beauty who would like to study psychology. Another Smart Sensuality woman in the making. Remember our qualities: smart, sexy, spiritual and with great heart for humanity. Anne
