Gaga Explains VMA Meat Dress to Ellen Degeneres

We were wrong, thinking that perhaps Lady Gaga somehow donned her meat bikini for Japanese Vogue at the suggestion of bad-boy photographer Terry Richardson.

After Gaga showed up to claim eight moonmen at last night's VMAs in a dress made completely of meat, we agree she has her wits about her.

Receiving the coveted Video of the Year gong for Bad Romance, prsented by Cher, Lady G joked: "I never thought I'd be asking Cher to hold my meat purse."

via Daily Mail UKUSA Today reports that vegan Ellen DeGeneres taped the season opener of her show last night at the Nokia Theater and asked Gaga about the dress in an interview that will air today.

"Well, it is certainly no disrespect to anyone that is vegan or vegetarian. As you know, I am the most judgment-free human being on the earth," said Gaga. "However, it has many interpretations but for me this evening. If we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones. And, I am not a piece of meat." via USA Today

Ellen gives Lady Gaga a lettuce bikini on today's show. No word on whether Gaga will wear it in a future equal-time photo op. Lady G abhors political correctness.

OK, Lady Gaga . . . we sort of 'get it'. Oh what are we saying; we don't 'get it' at all. As feminist women and men, we understand Gaga's 'piece of meat reference.'

Our challenge is that we tie blood-thirsty meat to patriarchal attitudes, where women's rights, dead dolphins, female sexuality and all of nature are tossed together in the same heap of disregard, and especially in Japan.

Appearing in a meat bikini on Vogue Hommes Japan played right into Japanese nationalist hands, in our opinion -- the very week when the annual dolphin slaughter in Taiji, Japan began again.  Japanese men are among the most chauvinistic on the planet.

With all due respect to Gaga, who we are loathe to criticize, Terry Richardson absolutely views women as red meat, too.

Terry R is following Gaga around on tour. Rightfully so, Lady G says she's worried Terrry will photograph her taking a piss. We assume he will try and hardly a woman with no control of her life, Lady Gaga approves should they hit the Internet.
