Did Spencer Tunick Shoot Nude Playboy Logo Ad?

Playboy's entire office is moving to LA by May 2012. Created in 1953, Playboy has always been based in Chicago, Hugh Hefner's birthplace. Previously, only the company's publishing team was making the move.

It seems that Playboy has a thing for beaches, expressed in their new ad posted on The Gloss. No photographer credit is given and it may well just be a digital manipulation of many naked women into the Playboy logo, but the style is certainly that of American artist Spencer Tunick, who famously lensed about 5,200 naked people at Sydney's iconic Opera House in 2010.

Google searches about the ad are coming up empty, which is just another example of the digital world moving ahead of Playboy marketing and Publishing execs. Major websites are starting to drive conversation around the ad, and Playboy is mum. Perhaps Hef's team is busy packing boxes, preparing for the big move and unable to multitask.

Bring in the women Hef. Playboy's most recent PR disaster was the early release of the Lindsay Lohan Marilyn Monroe photos by Yu Tsai.

Spencer Tunick's Nude Installations

The Gloss expresses a dislike of the Playboy ad -- or a feeling of discomfort -- reflecting that the women look like ants. This quality pervades most of Tunick's work. The controversial photographer has been arrested countless times, hosting installations around the world.

Writing about the Sydney event, Anne said:

Straight and gay participants — including one pregnant woman who postponed her C-section by hours to join the event — expressed the nonsexual nature of the event, while emphasizing its ‘tribal’, humanist vibe.

‘Tribal’ is a bit like ‘sensual’ in that the word implies ‘natural’ which is forbidden and disgusting, according to the patriarchy. The sometimes naked Indians of America and the Latin American women who greeted Columbus with flowers had to be ‘civilized’ by religion — as an example.

In particular, this loathing of the human body and our physicality has haunted — and I argue militarized —  societies in its path.

The Israelis -- who are having massive social conservatives issues of their own with modestly-dressed, eight-year-old girls being called 'prostitutes' on their way to school -- used Tunick for a uniquely ambitious photographic project in late 2011.

André Saraiva's 'Deadliest Catch' w/Camille Rowe | Testosterone in Action

Note | Nudity Without reading me carefully, one could get the wrong message about my commitment to international women's rights, freedom of expression and tasteful, inspiring nudity. We've had a couple women pass out in aghast disapproval on Sensuality News, but for the mostpart, I get a long leash on this topic.

Simply stated, I've earned the trust of readers on maneuvering this tricky terrain called 'sensually appropriate'.

Supporting Playboy France most days and Karlie Kloss in that ridiculous controversy about Kloss damaging her Grace Kelley image with the Allure shoot; coupled with my loving both Treats! and Lovecat to death might convey the impressionon that anything goes with me.

Not true.

When you start talking the natural female submission of women, we're out on thin ice together, causing my inner feline to roar its pretty blond head in defiant refusal. I have the support of the majority of readers  -- men and women -- on this topic, although I have been recently called a knee-jerk reaction feminist who isn't truly a member of the creative class, given my lack of visionary thinking about the art of female submission.

This topic is under major discussion in my AOC Sensual Rebel column, where I combined my previously nice-girl, seductive discussions on human sexuality and the previously separate feminism and sexual politics channels. Read on Ellen Gayda: Submission Is Rarely A Healthy Woman Gift to Men.

The subject of female misogyny lies at the heart and soul of Anne of Carversville. You're talking to a woman who was reading 'The Origin of Satan: How Christians Demonized Jews, Pagans and Heretics' before bed last night. I'm also reading again Ernest Becker's 'The Denial of Death' and 'The Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets'. It all fits together and so does 'Deadliest Catch'.

I Know Misogyny When I See It

Photo by Corrie VierreggerWas it Supreme Court Jusice Stewart Potter who famously said that he couldn't define pornography but he knew it when he saw it? He took a lot of justified heat for that remark, and I'll allow myself to fall in the same rabbit hole.

I'm having a Stewart Potter moment, confronting 'Deadliest Catch', published on another blog and featuring Camilla Rowe by André Saraiva for L’Officiel Hommes Paris. To all who wish to understand my boundaries, they were just crossed -- and I don't care if he's the new, not sh*t creative director for the magazine or not.

As my driver said to me on the way to Caitlin's party in NYC the other night, "I have to live with myself when I put my head on the pillow at night."  'Amen' to that philosophy.

It seems that Camilla Rowe is promoting the hit show from the Discovery Channel. To me the images explain the real story of what happened to women historically.

Relating to Nudity in Fashion | Guinevere Van Seenus | Raquel Zimmermann |

Guinevere Van Seenus | Cedric Buchet | 10 Magazine Fall & Winter 2010

Model Guinevere Van Seenus makes her second appearance in the Fall 2010 issue of 10 Magazine, offering us the opportunity to contrast her presentation of nudity in a second editorial, devoted to beauty by Mario Sorrenti.

The last photo in this editorial is one of the most controversial images I've seen, a photo capture that makes a disturbing and almost violent comment about the treatment of women in fashion and beauty industries.

Similar photo captures have defined the pornographic industry for decades. With nudity now so widespread in fashion editorial except for mainstream American publications like Vogue, the question for websites like Sensuality News and Anne of Carversville, which are curated digital essays about women and our lives, is when a set of nude photos deserves exposing.
